my first Spartan race
11/11/19
THIS IS THE DAY I JOINED MY FIRST SPARTAN RACE!!!!
I had been wanting to do this for a long time. I had the race in my cart ready to check out months ago. Then I backed out. I told myself that I wasen’t ready, along with many other excuses.
I was excited for this. I would now have that little extra motivating factor to push me to the next level of my health and fitness goals.
I was excited to challenge myself. To see what I got. See if this old athlete turned has been could compete and perform like he used to.
The first week it worked. I would make time to train each day. burpees. running. pushups. squats. more burpees. I was pushing myself in the direction that I wanted.
You see, working out just to look good was not enough motivation for me. I needed a sport. I needed a challenge. I needed a Spartan race.
Update: 1/8/2020 IT HAS WORKED
I have logged 2-4 training sessions a week for the last 8 weeks. My cardiovascular stamina has greatly increased. I am running 3 miles a few times a week. Spartan race is less than 3 weeks away so I am really ramping up my intensity and duration. Burpees feel strong. I am really getting EXCITED TO TEST MYSELF.
RACE DAY 1/26/2020
This is the day I was looking forward to for months now. I was putting in countless hours preparing myself for this challenge. I am ready to crush this course. I stood in front of the starting line holding my two daughters for a quick photo. I had a strong confidence inside of me. I had no doubt that I would finish my first race.
The Spartan Sprint is a 5k (3.6 mile) course with 20 obstacles.
Some obstacles I found more challenging than others. The rope climb at the end of the course had me dropping down for 30 burpees.
